Dr. David S. Westerman
Dave has been at Norwich since 1982 when he joined the faculty as a geologist. Since then he has moved forward in his career teaching a wide variety of “hard rock” courses and doing research initially on Appalachian tectonics and, for the past two decades, on the intrusive rocks of the Tuscan Magmatic Province in central Italy. After becoming the first Director of the Undergraduate Research Program in 2002, his work as Associate Vice President for Research started in 2007. Throughout this period of administrative work his primary effort has been to provide the space, time and money needed by faculty and students to carry out their original scholarly endeavors, while nurturing the environment needed for them to do their work.
